The Malawi government has announced that a military plane carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima has gone missing after disappearing from radar.

It said in a statement today that all efforts by aviation authorities to contact the plane since it went off radar have so far failed.

The plane, which took off just after 9:00 am local time (07:00 GMT), was carrying Vice President Chilima and 9 others.
