Macron dissolves parliament calls for new elections
French President Emmanuel Macron announced during a speech to the French people on Sunday evening that he will dissolve the National Assembly (parliament) and call for new general elections on June 30.
In detail, French President Macron announced on Sunday evening the dissolution of the National Assembly and the organization of new legislative elections, after the French far-right won the European elections by a large margin over the presidential majority camp.
Macron said in a televised speech, "I will shortly sign the decree to hold the first round of legislative elections on June 30, and the second round on July 7."
French President Emmanuel Macron added that the results of the European elections "are not good for the parties that defend Europe."
