WhatsApp is preparing to launch a new update that will enable users to know which of their friends were active on the application "a little while ago".

According to the experimental test published by the WABetaInfo website, the update will reveal who was "recently online" or "online" among the list of people available on WhatsApp for each user.

The new update may pose a problem for those who love privacy and prefer not to show their status on the application.

The Metro website indicated that the goal is to encourage the start of new conversations by showing active users to all those who keep their numbers, to encourage users to chat with people they have not spoken to before.

The user will see a list of "who was recently online" from among the user's contact list.

The website stated that the new update from WhatsApp will be launched in the coming weeks.

However, it should be noted that the update is optional and does not show all the people who are online at that specific moment.

WABetaInfo said the update will show who was recently active on the app "in general", and will not be specific about who is "online now" specifically.
