A "terrified" father rushed his daughter to hospital after seeing her suffer a terrifying attack of pain, only to discover her lung had exploded because of an e-cigarette.
Mark Blythe was "crying like a baby" when he received a call saying his daughter Kayla, 17, was in a critical condition and had turned blue in the face as she slept at a friend's house early on May 11, the Metro reported.
After being rushed to hospital, Blythe discovered his daughter's lung had "collapsed" due to excessive vaping, causing a small air blister known as a "pulmonary bulla" to burst.
Kayla underwent a five-and-a-half-hour operation during which part of her lung was removed after a hole was discovered in it.
Doctors told the teenager she had almost had a stroke because of the "pulmonary bulla".
According to doctors, Kayla smoked the equivalent of 400 cigarettes a week using an e-cigarette (about 57 cigarettes a day).
Her father said: "What happened terrified me, I cried like a little child. I thought I lost my daughter. I hope everyone stops smoking, nothing is worth this."
