Biden and Trump to hold second debate on this date

US President Joe Biden has confirmed his intention to have a second debate with his Republican rival in the upcoming presidential election, Donald Trump, "in September" after their first debate, which took place at the end of June, in which his performance was disastrous.

Biden said in an interview with NBC, "I will debate him at the time we agreed to debate in September."

The Biden and Trump campaigns had agreed to hold two debates between them, the first of which took place in Atlanta in June, in which Biden's performance was disastrous.

Following that debate, many wondered whether Biden would repeat the debate amid growing calls from Democrats for him to withdraw from the presidential race.

Biden faces these calls amid doubts about his mental competence, raised by his performance during the debate when he had difficulty finishing sentences or conveying a coherent idea.

During his interview with NBC, Biden stressed the "legitimacy" of growing concerns about his age.

"I understand why people say, 'Oh my God, he's 81. What will he be like when he's 83 or 84?' That's a valid question," he said.

The Republican Party on Monday formally nominated Donald Trump as its presidential candidate to face President Joe Biden, who is seeking a second term in November.

Trump secured enough delegates to the Republican National Convention, which the former president attended in his first public appearance since the assassination attempt.

The convention also formally nominated James David Vance as its vice president.
