Omega-3 helps treat acne

The results of a recent study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology showed that omega-3 fatty acids help treat acne, in conjunction with the Mediterranean diet.

Omega-3 helps treat acne

The study found that taking omega-3 supplements and following the Mediterranean diet, which is based on whole grains, fruits, vegetables and seafood while reducing salt and sugar, helps reduce inflammatory and non-inflammatory acne to a significant extent.

The study included 60 people suffering from mild to moderate acne, and almost all participants were deficient in omega-3 acids at the beginning of the study.

The results of the study found that people who reached "target levels" of omega-3 acids during the study period, their acne decreased significantly.

“Lifestyle interventions, including dietary recommendations, should not be viewed as a substitute for prescription medications, but rather as a valuable addition to any modern acne treatment plan,” said study author Dr. Anne Gertler of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
