Modric decides his fate with Real Madrid

Real Madrid confirmed on Wednesday the extension of Croatian midfielder Luka Modric's contract for one year, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2025.

The 38-year-old Ballon d'Or winner won his sixth Champions League title, in addition to his fourth Spanish League title with Real Madrid last season.

Modric's previous contract expired at the end of the 2023-2024 season, but the "prince" told fans that he would return next season when they were celebrating their Champions League victory.

No player has won more titles with Real Madrid than Modric, who has lifted 26 titles since joining the royal team in 2012.

The veteran player was widely expected to retire, especially after his partner in midfield Toni Kroos (34 years old) announced his retirement at the end of the season.

Modric also has no plans to retire from international football despite Croatia's early exit from the recently concluded European Championship, where they were eliminated in the group stage. "I would like to continue playing forever but there will probably come a time when I have to retire," said Modric, who has 178 caps for Croatia. "I will continue playing but I don't know how long I will continue playing."
