US President Joe Biden called for banning the weapon used in the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
Biden said in a speech at a meeting of the "National Association for the Advancement of Colored People" in Las Vegas: "We reject all forms of violence in the United States, and we must confront gun violence firmly."
He added, "We condemn political violence in the United States, and a real debate must be held, and responsibility must be exercised to reduce the intensity of the political debate, and I will continue to tell the truth after the assassination attempt on Trump."
Biden continued: "Trump left no room for health coverage that benefited many, fortunately Trump was not harmed and there is no place for violence in our country."
He added, "Kamala Harris is an excellent vice president and can serve as president with merit, we made it easier for Americans to own homes and increased the percentage of jobs."
Two informed sources had said that Biden's campaign to run for the Democratic presidential election will resume election campaigning in the coming days after suspending it following the assassination attempt on his Republican rival Trump.
Biden suspended his campaign after Trump was shot Saturday at a rally in Pennsylvania. The service members were killed.
Biden, who is still trying to repair the damage from his shaky debate performance with Trump last month, is under pressure from fellow Democrats to continue his verbal attacks on Trump to improve his sagging poll numbers in the most competitive states in the election.
A number of senior members of the Democratic campaign have expressed concern that a long campaign hiatus could further damage Biden’s chances in the Nov. 5 presidential election.
