Trump: Assassination attempt changed my attitudes and outlook on life

The repercussions of the assassination attempt on former US President and current candidate Donald Trump last Saturday, by an American teenager in his twenties, are still ongoing.

Assassination attempt changed my attitudes and outlook on life

Trump announced to a group of supporters at the Republican National Convention that surviving a near-fatal attempt had changed his attitudes and outlook on life.

He added in a video clip of the special event that was broadcast on PBS News on Thursday that he was shot while he had the best election campaign, referring to the procedures his campaign is following to get him to the presidency again.

He also continued, while talking about the shooting that took place on Saturday at a mass rally in Pennsylvania, which resulted in the death of one person and the serious injury of two others, and the killing of the 20-year-old suspect by law enforcement, that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

The potential president spoke as the crowd shouted: "Murderer! Murderer! Murderer!", referring to the young man who tried to assassinate the former president.

Trump also stressed that it was not a complete failure, but it was horrific that it happened, noting that what happened was completely unexpected.

Trump's speech came at a time when the FBI, the Department of Homeland Security and Congress began investigations into the Secret Service and other security personnel in the incident that shook the entire world.

In addition, the US House Oversight Committee announced on Wednesday evening that it will hold a hearing for the head of the Secret Service on July 22, against the backdrop of the failure to secure Donald Trump's election rally, which witnessed the assassination attempt on him.

In turn, Republican Senator John Barrasso said that the gunman who tried to assassinate former US President Donald Trump was identified by law enforcement authorities as a "suspect" more than an hour before he opened fire.

Barrasso's statements came after a briefing between members of the US Congress and the US Secret Service.
