Death of the Gulf Million's Poet.. got lost in the Yemeni desert and died of thirst
In a painful incident, the famous Yemeni poet Amer bin Amr Balabid, nicknamed the Million's Poet, died after getting lost in the desert of Shabwa Governorate, southeast of Yemen, due to thirst.
Local residents reported that the poet Amer Balabid died of thirst in the Al-Aqla desert in the Armah district of Shabwa Governorate, as he was on his way from Hadhramaut Governorate to Shabwa.
They added that the poet had traveled from Shabwa to Hadhramaut, and returned to Shabwa three days ago, but he got lost on the way back at the "Arma" junction towards Al-Aqla, and communication with him was lost for two days, according to what was reported by the local news website "Al-Masdar Online".
According to residents, the search for him began immediately after contact was lost with him, and his bag and phone were found on the road from Arma to Al-Aqla. After tracking the trace, his body was found dead, indicating that a state of sadness spread among the people of Shabwa Governorate immediately after the news of his painful death spread.
This incident comes a few days after the death of a Yemeni citizen named Abdullah Mubarak Al-Ubaidi, who died of thirst in the "Aarin" desert, east of Ma'rib Governorate, after his car got stuck in the "Umm Al-Tal" sand.
The desert roads between Al-Jawf, Ma'rib and Sana'a are witnessing repeated similar incidents, in light of the Houthi militia's continued blocking of the main roads between the governorates, which led to widespread popular demands to open those roads to alleviate the suffering of citizens, especially travelers between Yemen and Saudi Arabia.
Poet Amer bin Amr Balabeed is one of the sons of Shabwa Governorate. His fame spread after he won second place in the “Million’s Poet” competition in 2008. He then moved to the United Arab Emirates, where he spent many years before returning to Yemen in 2021.
