Insults on WhatsApp cost two men 15 thousand dirhams
Two men were involved in a criminal case after they sent WhatsApp messages to an aggrieved person, which included insults due to a dispute between them.
The victim filed a lawsuit against them because of their letters, and the two defendants appeared before the judicial body, and one of them admitted to sending the letters, while the second denied the matter, but the court considered that his denial was “merely a defense intended to negate the accusation against him and has no effect on its belief and judgment.”
The Court of First Instance issued its ruling fining the defendants 15,000 dirhams, and ordered the expungement of insulting expressions from social media sites.
They were banned from using the Internet for 6 months, the phone used in the crime was confiscated, and the civil lawsuit filed by the victim against them was referred to the specialized civil court, and the Court of Appeal upheld it in its ruling.
