FBI reveals identity of shooter in Trump assassination attempt
The FBI has revealed the name of the gunman involved in the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump, saying that he is Thomas Matthew Crooks.
The FBI said in a statement: “The FBI has identified Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, as the individual involved in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania.”
The bureau added: “This remains an active and ongoing investigation, and anyone with information that may assist in the investigation is encouraged to submit photos or videos online at FBI.gov/butler or call 1-800-CALL-FBI.”

In previous statements, Kevin Rogic, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Pittsburgh Field Office, said at a press conference in Butler, Pennsylvania: “This evening, we witnessed what we are calling an assassination attempt against our former President Donald Trump. The crime scene remains active.”
He added that authorities are “working intensively to try to identify the person who did this and any motives behind doing this,” and asked the public to reach out with any information that might help. Sources said the shooter was on a rooftop, only about 115 meters away from Donald Trump and the election rally.
