A cow baffled scientists in Brazil after it defied all odds and survived, even though it was born with 6 legs.

Divino Paulo helped one of his cows give birth on his farm in Idia, Brazil, last year, but he was left speechless when he noticed an extra pair of legs growing from the cow's neck, according to the British Daily Star newspaper.

Veterinarians predicted that the newborn would not live long. But now, more than a year later, the little calf is still alive.

The farmer said that veterinarians were initially concerned about the animal's health and did not think it would survive due to its rare condition. But he continued to live a normal life. Paulo told the Brazilian newspaper Globo that he named the calf Gambiara, adding that it was in "excellent condition."

Paulo José Bastos Quiroz, a professor at the Federal University of Goiás, explained that the condition is called polymelia.

He said, "Bulimelia can be caused by genetic mutations and also due to insufficient growth of twins during pregnancy. These causes may be linked to diseases or nutritional deficiencies that affect the growth of fetuses during pregnancy."
