Former Donald Trump lawyer Sidney Powell has struck a plea deal in the 2020 Georgia election case, one day before jury selection begins in her trial.

Powell is the first female lawyer from Trump's inner circle to plead guilty and admit to committing crimes related to subverting the results of the 2020 election.

Powell pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor charges related to efforts to interfere in the 2020 election and agreed to testify against the other defendants in the case.

Fulton County prosecutors recommended that Powell be placed on probation for six years and fined $6,000, in addition to paying $2,700 in restitution.

Under the terms of the deal, she must also write a letter of apology to the citizens of Georgia. Powell helped spread conspiracy theories about election fraud in the days following the 2020 election.

She was indicted earlier this year along with former President Trump and 17 others in a criminal racketeering case.

The initial charges against her included violating Georgia law and conspiracy to commit election fraud as part of a scheme to keep Trump in power after he lost the 2020 election.
